Bacon Wrapped Water Chestnuts

Yields 30 bites | Total Cook Time: 20 minutes

Bacon Wrapped Water Chestnuts

Ingredients:

Two 8 ounce cans whole water chestnuts

2 tablespoons low sodium soy sauce

14 slices bacon, cut into thirds

1/2 cup ketchup

1 tablespoon Worcestershire

1/3 cup brown sugar

1 tablespoon gojuchang - optional

Directions:

  1. Drain and rinse the water chestnuts. Marinate in 2 tablespoons of soy sauce, cover and let sit in fridge for 30 minutes.
  2. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Wrap each water chestnut with bacon, then add to a lined sheet pan with a wire rack and bake for 30 minutes or until the bacon has rendered all its fat.
  3. Meanwhile, combine the ketchup, Worcestershire, sugar and gojuchang in a big mixing bowl. Add a splash of water to thin it out if necessary.
  4. Once the bacon is crispy, add the bacon wrapped chestnuts to the sauce and combine. Then add them back to your roasting pan (without the rack) and cook for about 10 minutes.
  5. Garnish with sesame seeds and enjoy!
